Buying Guide: Is This the Right Size?
The 80 × 100 cm format is one of our best-selling sizes, ideally suited to double doors, wider entrances, and commercial doorways. As a rule of thumb, your mat should be at least two-thirds the width of your door opening so visitors can take one complete stride onto the mat before stepping inside. If your entrance is narrower, we also stock 50 × 80 cm and other sizes across our coir range. For recessed door wells, measure the recess carefully and choose the next size up — coir trims cleanly with scissors or a utility knife.
Installation & Care
Installing: Simply lay flat at your entrance. The non-slip rubber backing holds the mat in place on all hard floor surfaces without the need for clips or adhesive. For recessed wells, trim to size with scissors or a sharp utility knife.
Routine cleaning: Shake or beat the mat to dislodge loose debris. Vacuum with a stiff-bristle attachment to remove embedded dirt. For deeper cleaning, hose down outdoors and allow to dry fully before replacing — coir dries quickly and regains its shape.
Tip: Avoid prolonged saturation in standing water, as this can soften the rubber backing over time. In covered porches, coir mats will last several years; in exposed positions, expect 1–2 seasons of heavy use before replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this coir mat be used outside?
Yes — coir is naturally weatherproof. It handles UK rain and frost without deteriorating. However, for best longevity, avoid leaving it submerged in standing water for extended periods.
Will the rubber backing scratch my floor?
No. The natural rubber backing is designed to grip rather than scratch, and it is safe for use on tiles, stone, laminate, and hardwood floors.
Can I cut the mat to fit my door well?
Yes. Coir cuts cleanly with scissors or a sharp utility knife. Cut along the weave for the neatest edge. The rubber backing can be trimmed with a craft knife.
How long will a coir entrance mat last?
In a covered porch or internal entrance, a quality coir mat typically lasts 3–5 years with normal use. In fully exposed outdoor positions, expect 1–2 years before the pile thins significantly.
Is the mat suitable for commercial use?
Yes. The 24 mm pile and heavy-gauge rubber backing make this mat well-suited to commercial entrances with moderate foot traffic. For very high-traffic commercial sites (retail, schools, offices), we recommend rotating mats seasonally.
