School Flooring Applications

Playground Safety Surfacing

Our BS EN 1177 Certified Playground Safety Tiles (30mm and 43mm) provide critical fall height protection for climbing frames, trim trails, and play equipment. The certification confirms the matting reduces impact energy sufficiently to prevent fatal head injuries at specified fall heights.

  • 30mm tiles: suitable for equipment up to 1.5m fall height
  • 43mm tiles: suitable for equipment up to 2.0m fall height
  • Interlocking design — no adhesive needed, easy to replace damaged tiles
  • All-weather drainage — no standing water

School Gym & Sports Hall Flooring

Rubber gym flooring for school sports halls requires shock absorption for floor-based activities alongside durability for ball sports, dance, and PE lessons. Our interlocking rubber gym tiles (17-20mm) provide the right balance of cushioning and stability, and are compliant with DfE indoor sports facility guidance.

Entrance & Corridor Matting

Schools face enormous dirt and moisture tracking from hundreds of children moving between outdoor and indoor spaces multiple times daily. Our heavy duty entrance matting removes up to 90% of moisture and debris in the first 3 metres — protecting interior floors and reducing slip risks.

Dining Hall & Kitchen Areas

Food-safe rubber matting for school kitchen and dining areas. R11 slip-rated, easy to clean, resistant to food acids and cleaning chemicals. Anti-fatigue matting for kitchen staff workstations reduces fatigue during meal preparation periods.

MUGA (Multi-Use Games Areas)

Outdoor MUGA surfacing in interlocking rubber tiles. UV-stable, weatherproof, suitable for year-round outdoor use. Available in multiple colours for line marking integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What certification do I need for school playground rubber matting?

School playground safety surfacing must meet BS EN 1177:2018 (Impact Attenuating Playground Surfacing). This standard certifies that matting provides adequate impact attenuation (HIC value below 1000) at specified fall heights. All our playground safety tiles carry this certification.

What thickness playground matting do I need for our climbing frame?

Thickness depends on the equipment fall height. 30mm matting covers fall heights up to 1.5m. 43mm covers up to 2.0m. 53mm covers up to 2.5m. Always specify your equipment's maximum fall height (measured to the highest reachable point) when ordering playground safety matting.

Can schools pay by purchase order?

Yes — we accept purchase orders from maintained schools, academies, and multi-academy trusts. Contact our trade team with your school's purchase order and we'll process your order on 30-day invoice terms.

How do I clean rubber playground matting?

Rubber playground tiles can be cleaned with a stiff brush, warm water, and a mild detergent. For larger areas, a pressure washer on low setting works well. The interlocking design allows individual tiles to be lifted and cleaned underneath. Avoid bleach-based cleaners as these can degrade the rubber compound over time.

Does rubber playground matting require planning permission?

Rubber playground safety matting is typically considered a maintenance item that doesn't require planning permission when replacing existing surfacing. New playground installations may require planning consent depending on your local authority. We recommend checking with your LA before major new playground installations.
