Anti-Static Rubber Sheet – Professional ESD Protection Matting

Industrial-grade anti-static rubber sheeting engineered to IEC 61340 standards for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. Our conductive SBR rubber safely dissipates static charges, protecting sensitive electronic components worth thousands of pounds from catastrophic ESD damage.

Used by electronics manufacturers, PCB assembly facilities, data centres, and cleanroom environments across the UK. Surface resistivity of 10⁵–10⁸ Ω ensures reliable charge dissipation without the shock hazard of fully conductive materials.

Understanding ESD Protection Levels

The static dissipative classification (10⁵–10⁸ Ω surface resistance) represents the optimal balance for electronics handling:

Insulative
>10¹² Ω
⚠️ Generates and holds static – damages components
Static Dissipative
10⁵–10¹¹ Ω
IDEAL – Slowly drains charge, safe discharge rate
Conductive
<10⁵ Ω
⚡ Rapid discharge – shock hazard, may damage MOS devices

Installation & Grounding Guide

For effective ESD protection, the anti-static mat must be earthed via a grounding point:

  1. Surface Preparation: Clean substrate, ensure dry and level surface
  2. Install Grounding: Attach copper tape or grounding stud to mat surface
  3. Earth Connection: Connect to building earth via 1MΩ resistor (personnel safety)
  4. Wrist Strap Integration: Install common point ground for operator wrist straps
  5. Testing: Verify surface resistance monthly using megohmmeter (IEC 61340-2-3)

Note: Without proper grounding, anti-static properties will not function. We recommend professional installation for critical EPA areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between anti-static and conductive rubber?

Anti-static (static dissipative) rubber has surface resistance of 10⁵–10¹¹ Ω, providing slow, safe charge dissipation. Conductive rubber (<10⁵ Ω) discharges rapidly, which can damage sensitive MOS/CMOS components and poses shock risk. For electronics protection, static dissipative is preferred.

Do I need to ground anti-static rubber matting?

Yes, absolutely. Without an earth connection, the mat cannot dissipate static charge. Connect to building earth via a 1MΩ limiting resistor. This resistor protects personnel from shock if they contact live equipment while grounded.

Can this be used for a full ESD Protected Area (EPA)?

Yes. When properly grounded and combined with wrist straps, heel grounders, and ionisation where needed, our anti-static rubber meets EN 61340-5-1 requirements for EPA floor covering. We recommend surface resistance testing at commissioning and monthly thereafter.

What maintenance is required?

Clean regularly with ESD-safe floor cleaner (avoid silicone-based products which increase surface resistance). Test surface resistance quarterly using a megohmmeter per IEC 61340-2-3. Replace when resistance exceeds 10⁹ Ω consistently.

Is this suitable for server rooms and data centres?

Ideal for server rooms. The static dissipative properties prevent ESD damage to sensitive IT equipment while the rubber provides comfort for operators and noise dampening. Complies with ASHRAE and TIA-942 data centre guidelines.
