Self-Adhesive Stair Tread Mat – Non-Slip Indoor Stair Carpet Cover for Wooden Steps
Slippery wooden stairs are one of the most common household fall hazards in the UK, and full carpet fitting is a significant and permanent commitment. These self-adhesive stair tread mats offer the ideal middle ground: a quality, non-slip carpet-texture surface on every step, quick and easy DIY installation without professional fitters, and the ability to remove and replace mats when they wear or when you change your interior scheme. The self-adhesive backing bonds firmly to clean wood, laminate, stone, and LVT stair treads. Available from Rubber Matting Direct with free UK delivery.

Buying Guide
Measure your stair tread width and depth before ordering. Standard UK residential stairs are typically 800–900 mm wide and 250–280 mm deep. These mats are designed for standard tread dimensions — for very wide or unusually-proportioned treads, contact us to discuss larger or custom-cut options. Order one mat per step and round up. For a 13-step staircase, a pack of 15 provides full coverage with two spares.
Installation & Care
Install: Clean and dry the stair tread thoroughly. Peel the protective film from the adhesive backing. Align the mat at the front nose of the tread and press firmly across the full width and length. Press along edges particularly firmly to ensure full adhesion. Allow 24 hours before heavy use.
Care: Vacuum regularly. Spot-clean with a damp cloth. When mats need replacing, peel off carefully and clean residual adhesive with a mild solvent before installing new mats.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the adhesive last?
On clean, sealed hard surfaces, the self-adhesive latex maintains strong adhesion for 1–3 years under normal residential use. Replace when edges begin to lift or pile shows significant wear.
Can I install these on carpet-covered stairs?
No — self-adhesive stair mats require a firm, smooth substrate for the adhesive to bond. On carpet, use a non-adhesive stair mat with a non-slip backing instead.
Will these mats work on outdoor steps?
Self-adhesive latex backing is not weather-rated. For outdoor steps, use our solid rubber stair mat set with non-slip tread pattern, which is designed for permanent outdoor exposure.
